Comprendre que - French subjunctive?

Does comprendre que take the French subjunctive?

Yes and no!

Comprendre que is followed by the French subjunctive only in negative sentences and in questions with inversion.
In affirmative sentences, the verb is conjugated in the indicative.

Example

Comprendre que – To understand that

Affirmative: Il comprend que tu peux agir comme ça.
He understands how you can act like that.

Negation: Il ne comprend pas que tu puisses agir comme ça.
He doesn’t understand how you can act like that.

Question with inversion: Ne comprend-il pas que tu puisses agir comme ça ?
Doesn’t he understand how you can act like that?
