Il paraît que - French subjunctive?

Does il paraît que take the French subjunctive?

Yes and no!

Il paraît que is followed by the French subjunctive only in negative sentences and in questions with inversion.
In affirmative sentences, the verb is conjugated in the indicative.

Example

Il paraît que – It appears that

Affirmative: Il paraît qu’il est marié.
It appears he is married.

Negation: Il ne paraît pas qu’il soit marié.
It doesn’t look like he’s married.

Question with inversion: Paraît-il qu’il soit marié ?
Does it appear that he is married?
