Bonjour à tous et bienvenue pour un nouvel épisode de French chit-chat with Dylane. Aujourd’hui on va parler des Jeux Olympiques de 2024.
Tout d’abord, d’où viennent les Jeux Olympiques ?
L’idée des Jeux Olympiques vient de la Grèce Antique, plusieurs centaines d’années avant notre ère. Tous les 4 ans, les meilleurs athlètes des différentes cités se rencontraient lors des jeux panhelléniques, dont ceux à Olympie, en l’honneur de Zeus.
Les Jeux Olympiques tels qu’on les connaît sont nés en 1896 à Athènes, en Grèce. Le Français Pierre de Coubertin a dédié sa vie à intégrer le sport et l’éducation. En 1892, il propose l’idée des Jeux Olympiques modernes qui est acceptée. Les premiers Jeux Olympiques ont eu lieu en 1896 à Athènes. Il y avait 43 épreuves et 241 athlètes de 14 pays.
Les sports d’hiver n’ont été inclus qu’en 1924 et il faudra attendre 1992 pour que les Jeux Olympiques d’hiver se fassent deux ans après les Jeux Olympiques d’été.
Les Jeux Paralympiques commencent en 1948. Le docteur Ludwig Guttmann souhaite réhabiliter les vétérans blessés et organise ce qu’on connaît maintenant comme les Paralympiques.
Ça, c’est pour l’histoire des Jeux Olympiques. Maintenant parlons du futur des Jeux Olympiques avec ceux de 2024 qui se dérouleront à Paris.
Les Jeux Olympiques à Paris, c’est le plus grand évènement jamais organisé en France. Paris a décroché l’organisation des Jeux Olympiques en 2017 et travaille sur le projet depuis. J’imagine que cela a dû être beaucoup de stress entre la/le Covid et l’infestation des punaises de lit.
Les Jeux Olympiques prendront place du 26 juillet au 11 août 2024, et les Jeux Paralympiques, du 28 août au 8 septembre 2024. Il y aura dix-neuf jours de compétition. Vingt-huit sports seront pratiqués plus quatre sports additionnels : le Breaking, l’escalade sportive, le skateboard et le surf. J’ai ajouté la liste de tous les sports sur le PDF. Il y aura 10 500 athlètes, 20 000 journalistes, et 31 500 bénévoles.
Ce dont je veux parler un peu plus, ce sont les sites de compétitions. Il y aura 41 sites de compétitions et beaucoup se trouveront à Paris. Les organisateurs veulent mêler les sites et monuments de la capitale avec les Jeux Olympiques.
Le Champ-de-Mars, au pied de la tour Eiffel, se transformera en une arène à ciel-ouvert pour les compétitions de volleyball. Le pont Alexandre III accueillera la natation, le triathlon, le cyclisme, et le para triathlon. D’autres compétitions se feront en Île-de-France, c’est à dire autour de la capitale. Le reste se fera dans différents stades de France, surtout le football, le basketball et le tir. La France n’a pas les meilleures vagues pour le surf donc cela se fera à Tahiti. Tahiti fait bien sûr partie de la République française mais c’est Outre-Mer.

Hello everyone and welcome to a new episode of French chit-chat with Dylane. Today, we’re going to talk about the 2024 Olympic Games.
Firstly, where do the Olympic Games come from?
The idea of the Olympic Games comes from Ancient Greece, several hundred years before our era. Every four years, the best athletes from different city-states would gather during the Panhellenic games, including those at Olympia, in honor of Zeus.
The Olympic Games as we know them were born in 1896 in Athens, Greece. The Frenchman Pierre de Coubertin, who dedicated his life to integrating sports and education, proposed the idea of the modern Olympic Games in 1892, and it was accepted. The first Olympic Games took place in 1896 in Athens, featuring 43 events and 241 athletes from 14 countries.
Winter sports were only included in 1924, and it wasn’t until 1992 that the Winter Olympics were held two years after the Summer Olympics.
The Paralympic Games began in 1948. Dr. Ludwig Guttmann aimed to rehabilitate injured veterans and organized what we now know as the Paralympics.
That covers the history of the Olympic Games. Now let’s talk about the future of the Olympic Games with the 2024 edition taking place in Paris.
The Olympic Games in Paris are the largest event ever organized in France. Paris secured the hosting rights in 2017 and has been working on the project since then. I imagine it must have been quite stressful between the Covid pandemic and the bedbug infestation.
The Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024, and the Paralympic Games from August 28 to September 8, 2024. There will be 19 days of competition. Twenty-eight sports will be practiced, along with four additional sports: Breaking, sport climbing, skateboarding, and surfing. I have added the list of all sports on the PDF. There will be 10,500 athletes, 20,000 journalists, and 31,500 volunteers.
What I want to talk a bit more about is the competition venues. There will be 41 competition sites, and many will be in Paris. The organizers aim to blend the city’s sites and monuments with the Olympic Games.
The Champ-de-Mars, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, will transform into an open-air arena for volleyball competitions. The Alexandre III Bridge will host swimming, triathlon, cycling, and para triathlon. Other competitions will take place in Île-de-France, which is around the capital. The rest will be in various stadiums in France, especially for football, basketball, and shooting. France doesn’t have the best waves for surfing, so that will take place in Tahiti. Tahiti is, of course, part of the French Republic, but it’s an overseas territory.
